FAQs

My realtor says I need a Sewer Lateral Inspection. What is that?

Many municipalities in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties require a Sewer Lateral Inspection and Dye Test before a property can be sold or refinanced. This mandatory inspection uses a camera to check the condition of the sewer pipe from your house to the street, and checks that the drainage is routed to its proper location ( sewer or storm). We are certified to perform these inspections, which are designed to check for defects, clogs, illegal stormwater connections, and tree root intrusion.

A recurring clog is a sign of a structural issue, not just a blockage. Common causes in our service area include:

  1. Tree Root Intrusion – typically seen in older clay or cast iron lines
  2. Bellied Pipes – where the pipe sags and holds debris, which happens overtime
  3. Deteriorated Pipe Material. We use camera inspections to find the exact cause and recommend a permanent fix, such as a spot repair or replacement.

Yes. We use professional drain cleaning tools and camera inspections to safely remove clogs and prevent future issues. If the issue is with the sewer line and is not due to a clog, we will provide a free on-site consultation.

Yes, we are fully licensed, bonded, and insured to operate across all our service areas, including Allegheny, Westmoreland, Butler, and surrounding counties. We employ NASSCO-certified technicians for all sewer lateral inspections.

Some interior warning signs of a larger sewer issue include multiple backed up drains, strange noises ( such as gurgling noises from the bathtub or toilet), washing machine backing up, sewage smells from the drains. Some exterior warning signs include unusual green and fast growing grass patches, soggy spots and/or sinkholes, and in extreme cases cracking driveway or foundations to house or retaining walls.

If you suspect there is an issue and notice any of these warning signs, call us to schedule a camera inspection!

While many people think a main line clog is just a larger version of a sink clog, the causes are often much more structural or environmental. Common causes include:

Grease Buildup: Fats/oils and grease can build up over time and solidify once cooled. Over time they collect particles and create a solid mass.

Foreign objects: Aside from a child throwing a toy down a toilet, a major cause of sewer line clogs are from flushable wipes and feminine hygiene products.

Aging or collapsed pipes: Over time with normal wear and tear, pipes can sustain structural damage. This can lead to bellies or low spots where waste collects and eventually becomes a hard mass.

Tree Roots: Roots can be very invasive and cause structural damage to the pipe where the roots then grow into (at a more rapid rate ) and create root balls inside the pipe.

Clogged drains are one of the most common plumbing issues, and they can be caused by a variety of things depending on the location of the drain. Here’s a breakdown: Bathroom drains: Hair binding to soap scum, soap & toothpaste buildup, and foreign objects such as cotton swabs and floss.
